Answers While Drilling delivers exceptionally valuable, high-quality data when you need it most. These real-time measurements include gamma ray, resistivity, acoustic, density, imaging, annular and formation pressure, directional data; hookload and torque data, and more. Data that can be correlated to pre-well studies, offset and historical data, surface logging data, drilling fluid reports and more. It is a wealth of data. It could amount to information overload. But with Answers While Drilling services, that information is quickly shaped into the answers that drive informed decision-making.
Data when you need it.
In the static realm of drill-then-log methods, positioning and FE data can be studied and evaluated in relative leisure. All that’s required is pulling your assembly and sending down a wireline logging suite, idling your rig for days, and transmitting the data for evaluation before making your next drilling decision. All it takes is time. However, on an oil rig, non-productive time is one of the most expensive commodities on earth.
But in the dynamic realm of Answers While Drilling, all that data is right here, right now, in real time, informing on-the-spot decision-making. The challenge is in the experience and knowledge it takes to translate these data streams into real-time decisions. Information overload can be a problem even when you have days to contemplate a decision; when decisions are made in real time, data confusion can be overwhelming. Unless you have the experience, the data integration capabilities and a dynamic collaboration between drilling personnel and geoscientists can turn the information you’re seeing into immediate, informed decisions.

Real-time answers for real-time decisions.
Over the years, INTEQ has been building an organization that integrates geoscience and drilling expertise to address this new discipline: real-time FE. In an industry where knowledgeable, qualified and experienced geologists and engineers are in high demand, we’ve recruited, retained and trained this new breed of experts. Both on the rig and through BEACON (see below), this knowledgebase of expert, real-time formation evaluation, consultation and recommendations is available to INTEQ clients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, throughout the world.
Around the world, around the clock.
INTEQ’s worldwide BEACONSM service monitors the real-time performance of remote drilling operations and assist on critical well applications, around the clock, around the world. You always have immediate access to the expertise of the world’s leading experts in real-time FE.
At BEACON, INTEQ geologists, petroleum engineers and directional drilling experts analyze live data streams from multiple, remote drilling projects. Using this data, the INTEQ experts provide immediate analysis and proactive advice to help rigsite personnel optimize drilling efficiency and wellbore placement. Through a dedicated RigLink satellite communications link, BEACON professionals also are able to include operator staff in data evaluation—further increasing your “Team IQ” and enhancing the decision-making process and rapidly disseminating “best practices” throughout your organization.
By centralizing high-level expertise, BEACON can bring immediate advantages to operators and drilling personnel:
- 24-hour access to experienced technology specialists, analysis tools and historical data
- Optimized wellsite execution to reduce costs
- Streamlined knowledge and data sharing
- More efficient resource allocation
- Reduced health, safety and environmental exposure
- Progressive, collaborative implementation

In addition to providing real-time support for INTEQ’s Answers While Drilling services, the BEACON service supports other wellsite services. BEACON is called on to perform quality control and diagnostic tests on bottom-hole assemblies in the field to ensure reliable BHA performance. Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids personnel can use BEACON's advanced hydraulics modeling and work with their counterparts at INTEQ to enhance hole-cleaning and improve drilling efficiency.
Baker Hughes’ OASIS drilling dynamics specialists provide online support using real-time downhole vibrational data to help avoid dynamics-related BHA failures and premature bit wear. Baker Atlas wireline data can also be monitored and evaluated from the wellsite. BEACON provides “anti-collision services” during simultaneous drilling and production, eliminating the potential risk of human error in the stressed offshore environment.
Mitigating risks mitigates costs.
At the back of every driller’s mind is the potential for kicks, reservoir damage, accidental formation fracturing, and, in particular, blowouts, disruptive at the minimum, potentially destructive or even lethal in the worst cases. Answers While Drilling technology addresses these risks directly—and immediately.
Before Answers While Drilling, drillers were often forced to rely on predictions based on pre-well estimates of pore pressure. But predictions made on the basis of historical or offset data are not nearly as reliable as predictions made with precise and direct pore-pressure measurements gathered in real time right behind the bit. With wellbore pressure management, Answers While Drilling tells you instantly when pressure ramps are down. You don’t predict problems. You can see them coming—and immediately take action to avoid them.
Answers While Drilling also enhances drilling performance and mitigates hazards by providing an immediate warning of excessive drill string vibration, allowing you to make corrections well before the problem compounds itself—and your costs explode.
