DRILLING/FORMATION EVALUATION TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

INTEQ leads the industry in the development of advanced directional and performance drilling technology and applications. This leadership is driven by INTEQ’s focus on driving research and development through in-house Technology Centers to leverage INTEQ’s deep knowledge of the requirements and challenges of directional and performance drilling. Third-party drilling technology was not advancing rapidly enough to meet the challenges INTEQ and its customers were facing: we had to do it ourselves.

In 1997, INTEQ, in collaboration with Eni (formerly Agip), developed the AutoTrak®  RCLS, the first fully automated closed loop rotor drilling system with integrated logging while drilling sensors.  With its high degree of automation and two-way communications capabilities, the control and precision of AutoTrak RCLS revolutionized directional drilling—changing the way operators planned and developed their fields. The AutoTrak system, with its integrated MWD (measurement while drilling) and LWD (logging while drilling), became INTEQ’s platform for rapid advances in BHA (bottom-hole assembly) design.

AutoTrak RCLS spurred INTEQ’s development of next-generation LWD and MWD instrumentation and advanced mud pulse telemetry, for the first time bringing while drilling measurements and data to parity with the data quality available through drill-then-log methods. The need to provide real-time evaluation of real-time FE data impelled INTEQ to greatly enlarge its geoscience presence, building a strong organization of petroleum geologists and engineers experienced and thoroughly trained in the evaluation of while drilling data.

AutoTrak was also the impetus to a new generation of powerful downhole, rotary steerable systems, including the AutoTrak X-treme® service, integrating the industry’s fastest, most powerful downhole motor to set the standard in drilling speed and precision. Other INTEQ technologies incorporating the X-treme power section include the VertiTrak® vertical drilling system, an automated system that drills gun-barrel straight vertical wellbores faster than ever before, and the TruTrakSM automated directional drilling service.

The combination of advanced drilling technology, advanced LWD and MWD capabilities and instrumentation, and the integration of INTEQ’s drilling and FE expertise has come together as INTEQ’s Answers While DrillingSM.
